2. Treat the MLA Content Map as the syllabus
The GMC MLA Content Map sets the examinable clinical presentations, conditions, and professional capabilities. A useful early step is a coverage audit:
- List systems/presentations you have already covered in finals teaching.
- Mark gaps where you have weak guideline recall (NICE / BNF / CKS) or weak next-best-step reasoning.

3. Understand the two-paper format
According to the Medical Schools Council FAQ for the Medical Licensing Assessment:

4. Phased roadmap (16 weeks — adjust to your date)
Phase A — Foundation (weeks 1–6)
- Daily untimed SBAs with full explanation review (quality over volume).

- Refresh high-yield acute presentations and prescribing safety.
Phase B — Integration (weeks 7–11)

5. Pass mark reality check

The Medical Schools Council reported a 98.3% overall pass rate across the 2024–25 academic year for the first national AKT delivery (10,000+ candidates). That is an overall outcome figure — not a guarantee for any individual sitting.
6. If you fail or defer
Resit policies are school-managed. Confirm:
- Whether an autumn/resit window exists for your cohort
- What must be passed alongside the CPSA / other degree requirements
- How failure affects graduation and provisional registration timelines
